- The immutable log of every action taken on the platform, at every hierarchy level

- Stored files filtered, sorted and paginated, with hierarchical scoping — either an explicit level or the level the signed-in user occupies

- Files served through time-limited signed URLs rather than open links

- Secure encrypted storage, with access following the same role and entity permissions as the rest of the platform
- Clip Guidance
- At least 5 seconds of pre-alarm footage; about 30 seconds in total, 15 seconds either side, is better
- Focus
- Limit clip capture to the alarm types that matter — capturing everything is the usual reason a storage bill surprises somebody
- Timelapse Example
- A per-camera timelapse record has run at roughly 26.7 GB a year, about 80 GB across three years
- Device Dependency
- A clip exists only if the device supports recording and holds a buffer. A camera without one produces an alarm and no footage
- Retention Is A Decision
- Storage is bought for a period. Footage outside the configured window is not recoverable later, and no part of the platform will tell you it was needed
- Not A VMS Replacement
- Cloud storage sits alongside on-site recording rather than replacing it; which one holds the authoritative copy is a design decision per site
